CAMP COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Brief Description: Camp counselors at Pali Adventures are responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of campers. They supervise campers in a cabin setting, at mealtimes, and during activities. Counselors are in charge of facilitating activities throughout the day. Counselors work as a team to ensure all campers have a fun and memorable experience at camp. Counselors report directly to their Specialty Director and Group Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Exhibit characteristics of responsibility, dependability, leadership, patience, punctuality, hard work, sense of humor, self-control, integrity, common sense, good judgment and a positive enthusiastic attitude.
 Complete the staff application and interview process.
 Attend staff training (May 30 – June 12) and all in-service trainings.
 Must have completed high school and be a minimum 18 years of age or older as of 5/30/20.
 Desire and ability to work with children.
 Other duties as assigned

Staff members are entrusted with the care and safety of young children in a rustic setting replete with natural and man-made dangers. All staff members must have the ability to respond immediately to an emergency. Any staff member with a disability that may affect the Staff Member’s ability to physically perform these requirements should immediately inform the Human Resources Department to determine possible reasonable accommodations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

• Serve the campers as a positive role model.
• Camp staff members will actively supervise campers both in assigned cabin groups (typically 10 campers and 2 counselors) and at assigned specialty, elective, evening and weekend activity programs.
• All campers should feel comfortable, safe and included.
• Learn the likes and dislikes of each camper in your care by showing genuine interest.
• Recognize and respond to the opportunities for problem solving in the group.
• The counselor is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of each camper within their cabin group and with whom they come into contact. E.g. drinking water, daily showers, teeth brushing, active supervision during rest/ down time, application of sunscreen and lip balm, appropriate attire for the activity they will be attending, etc.

• Provide opportunities for each individual to experience success during camp.
• The staff member must never leave campers unsupervised.

• Develop opportunities for positive interaction between campers and staff.
• Provide opportunities for each individual to experience success during camp.
• Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations.

CAMP FACILITIES: Campers sleep in cabins (or if they are really lucky teepees) with a staff member in each cabin or teepee. Cabins/teepees have six bunk beds and are solid wood structures with canvas flaps covering the windows and the door. Each tribe has a set of brand new bathrooms with individual restrooms and showers.

CAMP FACILITIES: River Way Ranch Camp operates as a resort 9 months out of the year when camp is not in session. Campers stay in air-conditioned cabins, and sleep 8 to a room, with two counselors. Cabins are complete with a private bathroom and shower, closest and sink area. River Way Ranch Camp is a beautiful facility, complete with stables, basketball and tennis courts, three pools, an on-site lake, and a high and low ropes course facility.

CAMP FACILITIES: One in-person camp will be held at the Georgetown Public Library in July 2025, located in Sussex County, DE.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Beginner coding skills are taught helping children learn sequencing and terms that grown up coders use everyday to create video games and more. OTHER CAMP INFO: The Project Endeavor Experience takes students and faculty from around the globe and works with each participant to hone their skills and talents. Each participant will be assigned a team and each team will work with a team leader to design a project or perform a routine or create a masterpiece that will be shown to members of that given field at a final banquet. The team that is elected by members of that profession will be honored at the event and will be able to meet with the judges. As a part of the Project Endeavor experience, each team will base their project and the competition on behalf of a local charitable organization. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: An advanced class for high achieving high school students interested in pursuing a career in medicine or related fields, such as pharmacy, nursing, biomedical research or drug development. Through engaging lectures and hands-on laboratory classes, students learn about normal molecular and cellular biology from PhD-level instructors, and then learn how these normal processes are distorted to cause the development of cancer. A similar style is used to teach Molecular Neuroscience, Molecular Immunology and Molecular Biology of Development and Aging. Ha B. Nguyen, PharmD - Ha is a professional pharmacist who also has laboratory experience working on antibacterial immunology. She has a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, San Diego and a PharmD from Midwestern University.

CAMP FACILITIES: Mariposa Day Camp, located in Altadena, offers themed weeks with several different emphases for girls to choose from. Girls participate in new and traditional Girl Scouts activities while making new friends, developing self-esteem and making lasting memories. Camp Challenge (Leadership Development Courses):

1. Camp Challenge Four-Week JROTC Leadership Development Program.

This camp is the only credit-producing Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) summer leadership course west of the Mississippi. The course is open to both male and female high school students (entering Grades 9 through 12.) The course consists of a combination of classroom work combined with adventure training activities and will reward successful participants with 180 hours of Leadership Education and Training (LET) Credit.

During the course, participants will develop self-confidence as leaders and as active team members as well as enhance his/her Core Values; Honor, Integrity, Responsibility, Loyalty, and Selfless Service. Additionally, this course is designed to add “Leadership” to Resumes and College Applications.

2. Camp Challenge Two-Week High School Leadership Education and Training.

This two-week leadership camp is designed for both male and female students (entering Grades 9 through 12) who are unable to attend the four-week JROTC Course but who are still interested in achieving a leadership training experience. Camper will choose one of the following electives for their focus: Leadership, Aviation,Computer Science, or ESOL.

3. Camp Challenge Two-Week Middle School Leadership Development Programs (LDP), Basic and Advanced.

LDP Basic is an introduction to leadership for students interested in exploring potential and enhancing existing skills while learning the fundamentals of citizenship. Robot Edutainment is looking for Moms, Students, Recent Graduates, and Any Individual interested in teaching STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education in after-school programs in the Los Angeles area.

Teachers will be using robot kits to teach children in grades 3 - 6 how to assemble structures, introduction in electronics, and programming the robots in a curriculum designed to immerse children in concepts of mathematics, science, and engineering.

Instructors generally teach classes Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6:00 pm or Saturday from 9 AM to 4:00 PM. We offer flexible hours-even 2 hrs/week is available!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: iPlayology offers a premium indoor summer camp for young children that combines supervised active play with STEM, culinary experiments, crafts, and social activities. The facility features a modern indoor playground with climbing structures, slides, toddler zones, and secure supervised spaces designed for ages 4–7. Camp programs include hands-on learning, movement activities, and flexible half-day, full-day, and extended-care options in a clean, safety-focused environment.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: iPlayology operates year-round as a modern indoor playground and family entertainment facility for young children. CAMP FACILITIES: Our huge facility the "Digital Gym" boasts state of the art equipment, a production studio with a green screen, multiple classrooms with iMacs and projectors, and a 49-seat theatre.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Campers collaborate to create original movies using Mac programs like iMovie, GarageBand, and iStop Motion. Learn how to use a camera and basic filmmaking and lighting techniques. Each week on Friday, the family is invited to come for a screening of the campers videos!

CAMP FACILITIES: Our 200 acre property contains forest land, a swimming pond, activity fields and hiking trails. We have 14 cabins, a dining hall, meetinghouse and a large community garden attached to our farm lands and orchard.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summer Camp - Ages 8-14: Campers come for 1 week or two week session (and some for 3, 4, or 5 weeks!) and go on wilderness trips. Each week there are 3 day, 2 night trips to Tahoe, the Sierra Buttes, and/or the Yuba River.

Teen Leadership Camp - Ages 15-16: These exciting programs takes the Summer Camp experience to a whole new level for 15 and 16 year olds: We offer a two-week hiking program, a one-week farming and cooking program, and a two-week bike repair and bike touring program.

Hiking Program (Two weeks): TLCers will spend two days bonding, learning about their trip, and preparing for hiking. They and their trip leaders will then embark on a 10-day backpacking trip along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). They will then return to camp, and will have two days of closure at the end.

Farming & Cooking Program (One week): TLCers will spend their week working in Woolman's organic garden, learning about farming, plants and the farm to table journeys of the food we eat. They will learn nutrition and cooking skills as they prepare many of their meals with the fruits and vegetables harvested.
